Who’s Behind
Briefly Written
A lawyer.
A writer.
A woman with a soft spot for sandy paws (and stories that feature them).
From Billables to Barristers
I’ve been a lawyer for nearly a decade, and, during that time, I’ve worn a few different hats.
I started in BigLaw as a litigator. I mostly did corporate defense work, but my firm had an incredible pro bono practice and I worked on a lot of criminal defense matters, too.
Then I spent some time in my firm’s London office. It wasn’t my first time working in London; during college, I interned for a criminal defense barrister. (No, I didn’t get to wear the wig.)
When I returned to America, I clerked for the Chief Judge of New York’s highest court.
After that, I spent some time learning the other side of criminal law when I prosecuted cases in Manhattan.
From Law to Lore
I set out to explore as many corners of the legal world as I could.
And I did.
I loved the work, and I wanted to pass it on. So I transitioned to the classroom, where I now teach first-year law students how to think and write like lawyers, drawing on everything I’ve learned along the way.
And now? I’m writing my debut novel, because legal briefs aren’t the only stories I want to tell.
I created Briefly Written to share what I’ve learned—concise, actionable tips for legal and creative writers who want less noise and more clarity.
Whether you’re briefing a judge or building a world, I’ve got you covered.
Let’s write something that matters—briefly.
